Homemade Date Liqueur (Gnoza) Recipe

From Andrew Gnoza, posted to news:rec.food.drink

Cut up 10 ounces of pitted dates into small pieces and place in a glass jar. Cover with 18 ounces of 100 proof vodka and let sit on the shelf for a three or 4 days. Pour the mixture into a bowl and mash with a potato masher until pulp comes out of skins. Place the mixture back in the glass jar and let it set for 3 or 4 more days. Strain through a piece of cheesecloth into a clear jar. Add 5 ounces of honey, cover and shake until the honey disolves ( I heat the honey in the microwave to make this task a little easier ). Decant.

This can be served at room temperature or warmed and served over vanilla ice cream as a sauce.
