Homemade Sambuca (Blanco) Recipe

From correspondent Robert Blanco - the "your Sambuca recipe" he mentions is actually the Licorice Liqueur.

Here is my update version of your Sambuca recipe.:

  1. Use either Elderberries or Licorice roots
  2. Steep in 1 cup Everclear 191 proof alcohol for one week.
  3. Strain and remove Elderberries or Licorice roots.
  4. In pot add 1 cup boiling water, 1 cup corn syrup and 1/2 cup sugar . Stir till sugar is dissolved. Let cool.
  5. next mix all ingredient together and add 7 drop of anise extract
  6. let sit for about a week.

Note I used Everclear alcohol because Sambuca is a stronger liqueur than Anise. I also used corn syrup because it sweeten better and make the liqueur thicker.

[Note - no mention of how much root or berries to use. If I had to guess, I would recommend either using the quantity from the referenced recipe (2 1/2 Tbls) or adding enough berries or licorice roots to the 1 cup vodka so that the vodka just covers the fruit, which is probably right about 1 cup. I've never made it, I can't say. However, if you start with the sdmaller quantity, you can always add more and re-steep. Please let me know if you decide what a good quantity is, so I can share it with other folks.]
